An Artist's Statement

All people value something. What do you take value in? My artwork is being developed into a service that provides individuals with images that bring up this very question. I explore the conceptual idea of profit and what it represents to different individuals. There is a reoccurring symbol throughout my work that hints at the idea of money called Currevy. Currevy is defined as "revolutionary currency".  This simple image of a box and circle was created to reference a subject matter that all could have some relationship with. As an artist and businessman, I plan on using this logo to market this idea of value to my audience. I look to use my work as a tangible form with intangible qualities. My main objective is to create an artistic brand that services the people.

qualities. My main objective is to create an artistic brand that services the people.

A good deal of the work is created through surveying people and popular culture. The work takes views on political, historical, cultural issues as well as many other topics. For example, in some works I use street wear as my canvas while trying to relate to popular culture through what is being worn in todays world. In other cases, I might use historical figures to get the message across. My African heritage also has a big influence on my work and thought process. With that being said, I do my best on bringing light to the many issues this specific group of people has faced and still face. The inspiration comes from knowing my work could trigger someone’s thought process. It could create a profitable idea, a spark of greatness within, or even just a small sense of motivation. Even though there will always be some biased thoughts as I create, at some point I look to be selfless in the process. Going back to the main objective, which is to service the people.

I use a variety of mediums in my work right now in hopes to spread the beauty of the content. Currently, I’m looking to explore the art of screen-printing. My means for this is to continue to spread my message while playing on the idea of how multiples of something could still hold great value.

I plan on tapping into the world of street art. Being able to develop my work in public spaces would be great, because I would not only reach more people who might have never seen my work, but it would challenge me to create work that would play off of the areas I work in. I plan to work in areas of heavy population and poverty stricken communities. Another area of art I will invest my time to in the near future is the art of film. Studying this form of art will hopefully help me with creating projects that revolve around my artistic goals. When finishing my apprenticeship, I want to incorporate my skills from tattooing my work as well. With all of the skills I’m developing and have developed, there should be no reason for me not getting my message out through the artwork
